Am I eligible for cardiovascular risk factors screening programme if I’m already diagnosed with diabetes/high blood pressure/high blood cholesterol?

If you have already been diagnosed with diabetes/high blood pressure/high blood cholesterol and you have regular follow-up at your health centre or hospital then you are not eligible for the screening programme. For those already diagnosed with these conditions, it is highly recommended for you to follow-up with your regular doctor for consultation and routine monitoring of your blood tests.


If I do not meet the criteria for cardiovascular disease risk factors screening programme, can I still participate in other screening programmes?

If you do not meet the eligibility criteria for cardiovascular disease risk factors screening, you may still be able to participate in the other screening programmes (colorectal cancer screening programme, breast cancer screening programme or cervical cancer screening programme) provided that you meet the eligibility for those screening programmes.


How do I prepare myself for the cardiovascular disease risk factors screening?

The screening process will involve answering a series of health questions, taking your measurements of your weight, height, waist, blood pressure and a blood test. For the blood test. You will need to fast (no food and drink other than plain water) for 12 hours prior to your blood tests. You may take your medications as usual.


How do I get the results of my cardiovascular disease risk factors screening?

The results of your Cardiovascular disease risk factor tests will be explained by a health screening nurse during your follow-up appointment.

1. If your screening results are all normal, you will be re-invited for screening after 3 years.

2. If you have abnormal results, you will be re-invited for screening every year or referred to a doctor at your nearest Health Centre for further assessment and management.

If you are also participating in the Colorectal Cancer Screening Programme, the results of your stool test (FIT) will be informed as well.
